The Viking Campaign

A friend of mine sent me a book titled "Njal's Saga", published by Penguin Classics in 2001. See https://www.amazon.com/Njals-Saga-Classics-Magnus-Magnusson/dp/0140441034/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Njal%27s+saga+penguin&qid=1605369603&sr=8-3.  It's a great inspiration for a campaign world.  It's one of the Icelandic Sagas.  Lots of fighting and oaths and cool craziness.  I love it man!  So I used the free version of Hexographer (https://www.hexographer.com/) to create a simple map with basic OD&D (1974)  terrain features. See https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/28306/ODD-Dungeons--Dragons-Original-Edition-0e . Then I populated it with towns and some heroic 5th level OD&D characters.  I've been using Martin Hackett's book about Fantasy Wargames campaigns to create simple budgets for each town.  See https://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Wargaming-Martin-Hackett/dp/1852602139/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Martin+Hackett+Fantasy+Wargame&qid=1605369881&sr=8-2.  Note that it's the hardback "Wargame" version published in 1990 and not the paperback "Fantasy Gaming" sequel Mr. Hackett published in 2007.  Then I started writing what has turned out to be a campaign setting based on a mixture of Scandinavian folklore and OD&D.  There is a ton of this stuff in books and on the internet.  I have also consulted with my good buddy Josh who knows a lot about the Vikings and their culture.

I'm running this campaign partially solo in order to splice together the various, but necessary, rules and rulings. I'm also using Roll20 so that I can referee it for friends.  Attached are some screen shots.  I plan to post play reports as the campaign grows.  This should keep me busy for a while, heh!
